Event Description:
Biennial Planet Youth surveys are administered to 5,000 teenagers in all the schools in Galway, Mayo and Roscommon.  The first survey was in October 2018, the second in December 2020, and a third survey is currently being administered in November 2022.
 
The Planet Youth survey is a thorough examination of the lives of our young people and provides information on topics such as:

  • Home life
  • School life
  • Community experience
  • Substance use
  • Physical activity
  • Mental health
  • Wellbeing
  • Life online
  • Hobbies and sports
  • Adverse life experiences
  • Sexual Health
This session will be an introduction to the Planet Youth datasets and how they have been used in the region to date. It will also explain how the survey has been modified and improved for use here in Ireland and highlight changes that have been made to the 2022 survey.
 
The discussion will cover ways that agencies and workers can use the Planet Youth data: 
  • For developing prevention initiatives
  • To inform service and policy developement
  • To inform work planning and strategy
  • For academic research
  • For area-based needs analysis
  • For project specific funding applications
