Rehabilitation Pathways

THE WRDATF, as part of its mssion to deliver the aims of the National Drug Strategy, is always seeking ways to improve rehabilitation services in the region and to improve the options available to service users pursuing either harm reductaion or abstinence goals.

​Current rehabilitation pathway projects being delivered by the WRDATF staff include:
 

SMART Recovery

SMART stands for Self-Management And Recovery Training.  It is a science-based, facilitated peer support group that provides an additional option to those looking for assistance with their recovery from any addictive behaviour.

The SMART Recovery 4-Point Program offers tools and techniques for:

  1. Building and Maintaining Motivation
  2. Coping with Urges
  3. Managing Thoughts, Feelings and Behaviors
  4. Living a Balanced Life


​Currently, the WRDATF are trialling SMART recovery in Galway, and if it proves successful, will be looking to provide SMART Recovery regionally.

Health Related Fitness Course

​THE WRDATF have been working with the Galway Roscommon Education and Training Board to provide the QQI Level 4 Health Related Fitness Course.  This course has been designed to be accessible to those with a drug or alcohol history and works towards providing motivation, support and a healthier lifestyle in addition to offering a route into further education and training.

​In addition to the core Level 4 Module, the learners are offered a variety of life skills component as well as taknig part in outdoor and gym based activities like Kickboxing, Jujitsu, Soccer and Pilates.  Life skills components of the course include Nutrition, Cookery, Conflict Management and Career Guidance.

​Thsi course runs over 16 weeks and will be offered annually. 


 

Life Skills and Job Activation

This programme is being offered in Mayo and aims to engage young people aged between 18-25 who are not involved in employment, education or training.  It is being delivered by the South West Mayo Development Company as an interagency project and is designed to support young people to develop life skills and become more job ready. 

This is done this by providing Industry Certified Training such as Customer Services Skills, Manual Handling, Support  Provisional Licence applications while also providing Life skills and Personal Development through Team Building, Communication Skills, Mindfulness, Exercise and Drug and Alcohol Education. 

Participants also recieve driver education, provisional licence and theory test support and a contribution toward driving lessons.
